Christmas scenes

John's morning

The rest of December

It's been a blur, honestly. We had presents to wrap.

Light shows to drive through.

Celestial events to admire
A gingerbread house to build
Homework to finish

Last-minute presents to build

And more lights to drive through

In the end, we got it all done, our tree was trimmed, our presents were wrapped, and Christmas came and went.

Christmas tree hunting at dark

The tree farm had limited entry this year, so we found ourselves with a 5PM appointment. Rolling up after sunset, entering a pitch dark tree field with flashlights and a headlamp, moon spooky behind the clouds, we managed to choose the perfect scotch pine.

Thanksgiving

We were not able to safely make our usual journey to Grand Rapids and so consoled ourselves with a huge quantity of food.

Three pies later. It was good while it lasted.

Speech and drama showcase

Last year we drove to school, perched on desks, and were amazed by speech and drama performances (they were excellent). This year we cozied up on the couch and the performances came to us.

Still amazing!

Honestly, John

Fifth grade

He wonders why we do not always believe him when he says he is paying strict attention at school.

Election night celebration

A celebration was called for Saturday night, and it was a beautiful night to celebrate.

Baby apple tree

We have adopted a baby apple tree. We went to visit it when it was cold.

Halloween

A strange, distanced Halloween this year saw the children "trick or treating" by gathering candy from neighbors who laid it on tables. John described it as "efficient." The twins attended a socially distanced bonfire with three friends. And Joe and I spent a quiet, lonely holiday evening on our own!

We did spend part of the day erecting a candy chute from an upstairs window. Although we didn't get a lot of traffic, we had a great time pelting little kids with kit kats when they came by.
