When our Mama said we had to get used to trips like Fort Sumter, she meant that she and our Daddy are inordinately fond of historical minutiae. We were therefore not surprised when she planned an entire weekend around seeing the HL Hunley, the first submarine ever used in warfare.
Our enthusiasm was out of proportion to the reality of submarine warfare!
The exhibit was small-- it is housed, after all, in the conservation lab, and it's only open on weekends so that the scientists can study the submarine on the weekdays. For a small exhibit, though, there were lots of things for us to do!
There were two replicas that we climbed on and explored.
We're tiny history buffs in the making!
