Bathtime: update

We admit that the concept of the hooded towel escapes us.

The cuteness factor is pretty high, though.

Maxwell, Einstein, Daddy, and Us

Our Daddy sometimes needs some help with his grading. We are always happy to step up and lend a hand.

We are pleased to say that our grasp of magnetism and general relativity far surpasses that of most infants.

All wet

We love our bath times. We could have a bath every day, but we have apnea monitors and the leads can't get wet, so we only get to splash in the water a few times a week.

We are bath-salts-and-tiny-candles girls in waiting, but for now we get the kitchen sink and baby shampoo.

April 21: HOME!!

Anna was allowed to come home on Thursday, April 17. Since Julia had to stay a few more days, she moved in with our Mommy and Daddy in the Barr Tower studio.

Julia finally joined Anna at home on Sunday, April 20.

We know we look a little puny in our carseats, but it is so nice to be home!!

Getting cuter

It look them a few days to realize that we are not scrawny, tiny, pathetic sickly babies.

Well, tiny and scrawny maybe. But not sickly. We ditched the oxygen. We ditched the IVs. We tried hard to ditch the NG tubes, but we got remarkably cuter even with them in place.

NICU living

We have been in the Nursery for 15 days now. Not that we are counting.

It could be worse, for the first few days we weren't even next to each other so our Mommy and Daddy couldn't see both of us at once. They had to trek down the corridor to hold us.

Now we are in the same nursery, so we can feed off each other's cries.

We LOVE kangaroo time with our parents-- reminds us of fetushood.

April 1: BORN!

Farewell to thee, fetushood!

On April 1, Baby A's water broke around 6AM.

At 9:01AM, Baby A was BORN, followed at 9:24AM by Baby B.

It turns out we are little girls! Well, we knew this, but our Mommy and Daddy were delighted to find it out.

Baby A came in at 4lbs even: 1825g. She will be known as Anna Kathleen:

Baby B came in at 1980g, or 4lbs 5oz. She will be known as Julia Madigan:

These photos are from our birthday, when the doctors thought we might be sicker and weaker than we really were (FOOLS!). We known we have taken more flattering pictures in our short lives, and we hope our Mommy will post some of them soon.

Denial only gets you so far, continued

Our Grandmas and our Aunt Jenny came over to help our Mommy and Daddy get ready for us. They finally have someplace for us to sleep when we are born!

We think it is amusing that they think we will sleep.

Denial only gets you so far

Our Mommy and Daddy have had to accept that at some point, we will no longer be fetuses. And that time is fast approaching. We are pleased to report that they have purchased someplace for us to sleep when we are born and someplace to store our clothes and blankets.
Our Daddy even put them together.

We are getting bigger

We have been gestating for almost 33 weeks now! Yesterday the high-pitched sound waves captured our latest growth. They also captured us practicing our breathing and gulping amniotic fluid. Other things must taste better than this stuff.

We each weigh about 2000 grams (about 4lbs 4 ounces), which is excellent growth. Soon we will show you how our Mommy is also demonstrating excellent growth along with us.

New theories on our movement

Our Mommy saw a picture that reminded her of us, and all our kicking and thumping:

Only, you know, with us instead of a beared man and a kangaroo. We are most certainly not marsupials.

. . . _ _ _ . . .

Our Daddy has learned that when he pushes on our uterus, we sometimes push back.

He has decided this means we are sophisticated enough to learn Morse code and communicate from within the womb.

Photobucket

No distinct messages so far, but our Mommy is somewhat less than thrilled with the increased poking from both sides of the uterus.

Honing our growing skills, week by week

We find out on Friday what our current estimated weights are, but clearly we are doing a bang-up job of usurping our Mommy's calories. Just look at us grow! Well, we are a little hard to see, but look at our Mommy's uterus grow.

It's his turn

We think our Daddy needs one of these:

Overheard in the uterus...

Our Daddy is a big fan of the newspaper, and he happened to read out loud to our Mommy an ad for the Milwaukee tryouts for this show:

dance

We have never seen it, or heard our parents watch it, but we are practicing our routine on a daily basis. It's a double act with lots of kicking and tumbling.

Our Mommy has tried to convince us we will still be in utero when the auditions role around (March 20), but we keep a rigorous practice schedule just in case.

Snow days

Apparently outside of the uterus there's been a fairly substantial accumulation of snow. Because we've been rather active lately, our Mommy thinks we are spending these snowy days trying to learn this:

But in reality all we are doing is this:

Over. And. Over. And. Over. Again.

Make room in the uterus!

We have been cozy here for 26 weeks now, and we're slowly taking over.
