Tanks

One kid in a National Atomic Testing Museum tank is a smart, quirky kid with an interest in science and history.
Two matching kids with matching National Atomic Testing Museum tanks becomes an opportunity for strangers to seriously question your parenting decisions.

Tadpoles

It's that time of year!  Tadpole season at the Arboretum.  This year it was hardly a challenge to scoop them up into our hands.

You can just see this one slip through John's fingers.

Under the weather

Poor Julia is not feeling 100%.  But that has not stopped her from wanting to participate in lots of activities this weekend, and sleeping when she needs to.

After the bike ride

After we made it to downtown, our Daddy rode home to pick up the car and then pick us up.  We found a quiet spot near the planetarium to wait for him.  Like good city kids, we managed to amuse ourselves for a long time with the objects at hand.

But it took Daddy much longer than planned to come back, and eventually we settled into our grassy spot like true campers.

Bike the Drive

It's the Sunday before Memorial Day, so for our Mama and Daddy, that means Bike the Drive.  This year, the girls rode, too, and I was *most* unhappy to learn I was going to ride in my bike cart.

We were up at six to hit the road before seven.  It was a picture-perfect day.  Our legs felt good, so we just rode and rode.

 Even Daddy.
We made it all the way from our house to the Museum of Science and Industry to Millennium Park-- about nine miles.  Pretty good for a couple of six-year-olds.
Next year I'll be out of this cart and on the road, too.

Just a quick trip to the mailbox.

Spring cleaning

Anna helped clean out the closets.  She scored some clothes that fall right on the border of dress up and not-quite-dress-up.
Good work, little girl.

Mother's day: with sentiment

That Mom.  She sure does like to read and write.  And she loves her bed.  And grits.

Mother's day: journalistic approach

If your mother says she loves you, check it out.  The rest of this is independently able to be verified.

Arboretum, redux

It was a glorious day-- and we've waited a long time for it-- to go to the arboretum.  We put out our picnic blanket, and some of us had a nap, some of us read a book, some of us enjoyed the silence.  The three of us, in the meantime, had a great time experiencing nature to its fullest.
Especially the dandelion part of nature.

We even gathered stuff up to make a collection, and we made some nature art.  It was a great day.

Mother's day

Happy Mother's Day, Mom.
From your beautiful daughter Anna
And your beautiful daughter Julia
And your beautiful son John.
Come on, John.
Oh, never mind.
