While we were napping

Our Mama thought we were being a little too quiet...

Lincoln Park Zoo

Last Monday we dressed in our monkey finest--some of us were happier about it than others--and went to the Lincoln Park Zoo.

John got over his initial fussiness and enjoyed looking at the Farm in the Zoo.

Julia, Anna, and our Mama got to feed a cow!! And then our favorite part: washing hands.

Monkey sizes up monkey:

Summer treats

We enjoyed a box of dreamsicles during the heat wave last week.

John is too little for anything but milk, so Gramee had to eat his.

The melted almost as fast as we could eat them!

I am finally starting to get pretty cute!

Advanced art

We are frequent attendees of Baby PhD's Tuesday morning art sessions, which we enjoy very much. At first the lessons were simple: draw, paint, glue, color. Now, however, the lessons are more advanced. We are studying cubism, as evidenced by Anna's excellent duck.

Chairs

With the purchase of some child-sized chairs at Ikea, we now get to share the dinner table with our Mama and Daddy.

There are other benefits of our new chairs, like writing in notebooks with Mama.

We were ready to be done with highchairs, but fortunately someone else was ready for them!

Trip to Michigan, continued

We stayed at Karen's with Grandma, Mama, and John while everyone else went to play golf. We got to play in the lake and the sand.

We totally got the better end of this deal-- it was a hot, hot day, perfect for the beach but meltingly humid for golf.
After dinner we got out the kayaks. After a brief period of instruction, we were ready to hit the open water, but our Mama said we had hit our maritime limit for the day.

So Daddy and Steve took them out instead.

We chased them in the pontoon.

Trip to Michigan, continued

Our Aunt Karen is the only person we know with a boat. Unlike our parents, who are skittish about teaching us to drive, Karen believes in teaching such skills early.

After just a brief period of instruction, she let us take the helm independently.

John did not get a turn at the wheel. Karen says you must be capable of holding up your head before piloting the boat. So John fussed in protest.

Trip to Michigan

We have recently returned from a trip to Grand Rapids, where we had action-packed day after action-packed day. We had our first visit to Meijer Gardens. We rode the tram to hear all about sculpture.

At least that is what we are told that we saw.
They had a great children's garden with a children's gate and path.

And a treehouse full of wonderful things to do, if you count "running in circles" a good thing to do (and we do!).

Under the treehouse was a table setting with a tea set. What a good time we had with that!

Binocular vision

One month old, and I already know everything you could ever possibly dream of teaching me. Except conjugate gaze.
